About
IceFurCabin:
IceFurCabin started in 2013 when 6 furries decided to rent a cabin together to have a party and hang out, like a mini convention. Over the years, IceFurCabin has grown significantly, and we have transitioned to an invite-only cabin due to the limited capacity for large gatherings. You can contact us if you want to join the cabin. You can contact us through our telegram group or contact our staff
IcelandFurs/IcelanFurs:
IcelandFurs started in 2009 as a small group that met a few times at a local mall. It wasn't very big back then, and only a few people attended. However, in May 2013, Abby Fennec took over from Redward, who had made the group in the first place. He permitted Abby to manage the name and the Furaffinity account associated with it, as Abby was good at planning and hosting events, and making the group grow. Ever since, Abby has made tons of advertisements over the years around events such as furry cons and stickers around Reykjavik. Right as Abby took over, he invited people to visit Iceland through IceFurCabin, and he paid for most of the event, letting people pay only for food and booze. Boe Bat has been part of day one since 2009, and he has been by Abby's side, bringing all the speakers, tech, and gear for the cabins. Boe has also helped manage the planning of the event schedule. In 2019 Abby too some break from the IcelandFurs but kept hosting the cabin with Boe as lots of personal stuff happened in his life, In 2022 he met Quellix who wanted after going to NordicFuzzCon with Abby and Boe to make Icelandfurs again. It started growing but the group split in half in 2025 because of some drama we shall not go into but to make sure yes there is another group that has most of the members but its not the one that Abby runs and Abby wishes not to be a part of it as they have gone to so far to harass, black mail and post untrue stuff about Abby, including mocking his AuHDH that yes Abby struggles with and he is open about it an not ashamed to seek help from his friends in management.
What are furries?
Furries are people with an interest in anthropomorphic or human-like animal characters, forming a community or fandom based on this shared interest. Members often create an animal persona, called a "fursona" (taken from the word persona), and express their interest through art, writing, online profiles, and sometimes, but not always, by wearing costumes known as "fursuits", which can be very expensive to buy but are possible to make. The fandom provides a social outlet for creative expression and friendship, with many members utilising fursonas to express themselves and engage in roleplaying. Often people who are furries start their interest through animations and comics for example from disney The Lion King, robin hood, zootopia, Balto, The Jungle Book, 101 dalmatians, The Fox and the Hound, The Rescuers Down Under, Brother Bear, Oliver & Company and other movies not by disney like An American Tail, Cats Don't Dance, Madagascar, Ice Age, Fritz the Cat, The Secret Life of Pets, My Little Pony, How to Train Your Dragon, Pokémon, Beastars, All Dogs Go to Heaven.
What furries do
Create fursonas: Many furries create a unique animal character, or "fursona," that represents them within the community. These characters can be based on real or mythical animals but have human-like traits such as walking on two legs and talking.
Use art and writing: The fandom is built around creative expression. People share their fursonas through art, stories, and other creative works.
Wear and make fursuits: Some members create and wear elaborate costumes of their fursonas, known as fursuits. These can be full-body suits or partial costumes, such as ears and tails.
Socialise: The furry fandom is a social community that connects people online and at conventions, providing a space for friendships and a sense of belonging.
Reasons for being a furry
Have interest in furry media: such as comics, movies and video-games
Creative expression: The fandom is a way to be creative, whether through character design, writing, sewing or costuming.
Social connection: Many find a welcoming and inclusive community where they can make friends with others who share their interests.
Self-exploration: A fursona can act as a safe way to explore one's identity, including aspects of gender, personality, and social confidence. Also its a good way to express their love and care for animals.
Common misconceptions
Not all furries wear fursuits: While fursuits are a visible part of the fandom for some, many members do not own one.
Not based on being an animal: Members of the fandom are not claiming to be animals; they are fans of anthropomorphic animal characters.
Not just a sexual fetish: While the topic is sometimes sensationalised, most of the fandom is not centred on sex, but on creative expression and social connection.
